The Guy’s Guide to Getting Hitched

H&R Block, the tax people, have put together a great infographic on the groom’s responsibilities and tips for getting married.

It all starts with finding the perfect engagement ring.

Next is the proposal… do you do a nice intimate proposal or a proposal with a group flash mob and choreographed dance number? Your choice there guys… be creative!

From there, the groom’s tips are in the order in which each task should take place, with some helpful notes to help guide you along the way.

Why is H&R Block posting this? The answer is the last step in the guide.
Hint: It has to do with your personal finances as a new married couple.

Grooms getting more involved in planning the wedding

In the past 5 years, more grooms are having their say with wedding plans and not just “showing up” on the day of the wedding.

“The modern groom is trendy, savvy and stylish and wants to bring aspects of his style to the wedding,” says McKnight, a Brampton wedding planner. With many couples footing the bill, “grooms want to have a say in where those wedding dollars go, including a great suit, a bar stocked with their favourite premium liquors, maybe cigar and scotch after dinner, and an amazing honeymoon.”

Groom’s Wedding Cake Alternatives

In my many years entertaining at Philadelphia weddings, I’ve seen some great Groom’s cakes which really add a personal touch. Most of them have been sports related – a favorite sport such as golf, football, baseball, or favorite sports teams are also a great idea.

If the groom doesn’t eat cake, no worries. Here are some great alternatives from The Man Registry.

Many people ask me to suggest a song that is fitting for the Bride & Father dance or the Groom & Mother dance, and there are some nice general selections that are fitting.

My best advice is to always ask your Father or Mother if THEY had a song in mind. It shows that you are thinking about their thoughts and this special dance, whether they have something in mind or not.

Remember that your parent has been thinking about this day longer than you have… it will mean so much more to them if you at least ask for their input.

You can find some suggestions for the Top 50 Parent Dances from our music database below:

I hope this makes selecting these songs easier and more enjoyable for you and your Father or Mother.
