8 Ways to Keep the Kids at Your Wedding Entertained

HuffingtonPost Weddings has a great article about keeping the children at your wedding entertained. Having young children at your wedding can be a blessing or a disaster waiting to happen if left unsupervised.

With most weddings being a family affair with guests of all ages, keeping the kids busy should be at the top of your To-Do list. I’ve entertained at many weddings where there were kids who were all over the place, during the First Dance, Toasts, Cake Cutting, and more. All it takes is one child to act up and it can have a negative impact on your wedding reception.

I have seen brides hire a babysitter, nanny, or family friend for the day to supervise the kids and keep them busy. It goes without saying that Adult supervision focused on only the kids is your best bet for a good time to be had by all.

Some of the tips for keeping the kiddies entertained in the article include:
  • Paper and coloring books
  • Crayons and washable markers
  • Board games

Most brides are so excited once they get engaged and start planning their wedding. However, there are a few general rules that you should keep in mind.

  1. Don’t brag about how much you are spending on this or that….
  2. Don’t speak about friends or family members who may or may not be in the bridal party.

Tipping Your Wedding Vendors

Should you tip your wedding vendors? There are two sides to every debate and this is one that is included.
Martha Stewart Weddings has a guide but take it for what it is worth… In the service industry, giving a tip for service above and beyond is always appreciated. Doesn’t matter what role they played or how much you tip them. If they offered outstanding service and helped your Wedding day become a memory that will last a lifetime, then showing a little appreciation is a thoughtful gesture.

Grooms getting more involved in planning the wedding

In the past 5 years, more grooms are having their say with wedding plans and not just “showing up” on the day of the wedding.

“The modern groom is trendy, savvy and stylish and wants to bring aspects of his style to the wedding,” says McKnight, a Brampton wedding planner. With many couples footing the bill, “grooms want to have a say in where those wedding dollars go, including a great suit, a bar stocked with their favourite premium liquors, maybe cigar and scotch after dinner, and an amazing honeymoon.”

If the groom doesn’t eat cake, no worries. Here are some great alternatives from The Man Registry.
